HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
Hedwig Schmidt expects her due. After having to change her identity in order to leave East Germany with an American GI who promises to take her to the States if she changes her sex, Hedwig is left in a Kansas trailer park with regret, a poor operation, and what she refers to as a “Angry Inch.” She turns to music and meets Tommy, a geeky lad who she falls for. However, he ends up stealing her tunes and earning rock star status. What is there to do but become a rock goddess herself! This Tony and Obie Award-winning performance is half rock concert, part stand-up routine, and part exploration of what it means to be loved, not just by others but also by oneself.
